International 419-SMS

I don’t know if I get more spam than other people because my phone numbers are public, or if I’m just more of a touchy, grouchy git than other people and just react to every spam I get.

So, here is another SPAM-related post.

I just got an SMS from +256715316646 saying:

CONGRATULATION- You have won a TOYOTA LANDCRUISER VX worth $80,000 US DOLLARS.Contact the manager DR: STEPHEN through +254720043297 (JAPAN INT. MOTORSTHANKS.

Look closely. Firstly, it’s a 419-scam via SMS. I’ve never seen one of those before. 2nd, it’s from Uganda (a Uganda Telecom cellphone number). Third, it wants me to call someone in Kenya (a Safaricom cell number).

What on earth does one do to stop such things? Either this is run by a group with people on the ground in both countries, or they are using online bulk-SMS services. But International SMSs aren’t cheap. And I have no idea who to complain to about this. Let’s hope that this kind of spam doesn’t become common, because it’s virtually unstoppable if it does (like International e-mail spam).

Japan International Motors

I was woken up by a message 02h24 this morning with a message from +25576232752 saying that i have won a Toyota Landcriuser vx costing $ 140,000 and was the asked to call the manager at +254713786630. i am now realising that this is aslo a spam. Really what kind of people can do this. I mean, i a so frustratyed that this for me was a miracle. I hope that these people realise what they are doing to people. This is a worse kind of torment on the lives of people who are living below the minimum wage, people like me. I wish that the Japan International Motors could trace these people and make them pay for what they are doing, because they are also using the company and therefor other people would think that it is them taht are frauding people. Can you imagine, if i hadn't seen this page. I would have gone out of my way to try and get cash to call these people and it would cost me a whole tin of powder milk for my little girl. The pain i am feeling right now, i cannot express.

Japan International Motors

i recieved a similar sms from (+255768194902)on 31 Oct 2008. i was saying that i won a toyota prado vx worth $US110000 in Global Internet Rewards Promotion.
i was then told to ca mr Nick on +255754731530. i am sure this is publishing a negative image on Japan International Motors and i hope that these dubious people will be traced a legal action taken against them.
